Cosmetology

Location: Off-Site - Clover Park Technical College, Lakewood

Credit: 4.5 per year

Prerequisites: Must be 17 and a senior at time of enrollment

Program Description: The Cosmetology program, located at Clover Park Technical College, is designed to train students in haircutting, current styling trends, hair coloring, and safety and sanitation in a hair salon setting. Students will begin the program in July before their senior year through the next August after graduation and will earn the 1,400 hours (5 quarters) of instruction required to take the state licensing examination. Students may also attend Clover Park Technical College for two additional quarters to earn an Associates Degree. Students attend class in the evenings and must provide their own transportation. Students must be going into their senior year and on track for graduation at the time of enrollment. Program fees apply.

Cosmetology orientation at PCSC: Students who have submitted completed applications for the 2022-23 school year are required to attend an orientation meeting at Clover Park Technical College prior to receiving final acceptance into the Cosmetology program. Students invited to the orientation will be notified via mail and email. The orientation will occur in May.

The Cosmetology program runs from July 2022 through August 2023. Students will attend classes Moday-Friday from 3:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. The cost of the required hair kit (subject to change - this is the 2021-22 amount) is $1,200 of which $500.00 is due by the first day of class with the remainder paid over the following two months. Students must attend the required student orientation prior to beginning class.

Students who successfully meet course competencies, and have earned a grade of C or better, may be eligible to receive college credit from the institution listed below: 

Clover Park Technical College - up to 71 credits

Certification:
Upon completion of the required 1,400 hours, students will have the opportunity to test for the Washington State Cosmetology-Hair Design license. Students who complete the additional 2 quarters at Clover Park Technical College are eligible to test for the complete Cosmetology license and will earn an Associates Degree.
